art deco on south beach

With our hosts, Angie and Eric living in Miami Beach, we enjoyed a little walking tour of the Art Deco architecture and beach scene. Miami Beach is very influenced by the Art Deco era, with buildings reminiscent of ships, horizontal lines and “eyebrows” over the windows and colors hailing from the technicolor 80s of Miami Vice Miami Beach is definitely the place to be. Day or night, there are tons of places to eat, enjoy the sun or party.

Our port of call was Nassau, capital of the Bahamas. It was unfortunate that it rained all day. It is a beautiful place and we enjoyed the Pirate Museum and the famous Straw Market.

Dinner in Miami

We’re on vacation! We flew to Miami and are cruise bound. Tonight we went out with friends Eric and Angie from church who moved to Miami Beach. We had quite an adventure looking for a good local place to eat dinner and ended up at Angelique Euro Cafe in Coral Gables. We had a wonderful time and meal together eating out on the patio. I thoroughly enjoyed the 4 Course Prix Fixe: Montadito del dia, salad, seafood cioppino, and key lime cheesecake. It was wonderful! Thank you, Eric and Angie for hosting us during our stay!

Canada, eh!

Many of you know about Sam and Fred, two little penguins who travel with us sometimes. They were super excited to see Niagara Falls today.

They also watched the Toronto Blue Jays game. Quite the vacation for two little penguins!

Niagara Falls

Horseshoe Falls, Canada

Today we sailed on the Maid of the Mist, journeyed under the falls, and saw Niagara’s Fury. It is a such a beautiful place! I took tons of great pictures and could barely decide which to share.

For our 10th anniversary, John proposed celebrating in Niagara Falls! So here we are, in a restaurant overlooking the falls illuminated with lights celebrating with double chocolate brownie. Yum.

blast from the past

We are spending a few days on vacation! yipee! Nothing too extravagant. We drove to Pittsburgh yesterday and today visited Altoona. John’s great great Aunt lived there and his family would visit her during the summer in the 70s and early 80s. John remembered the area where she lived so we drove up and down a few streets and using this picture found her old house. It’s changed a little since those days and has certainly grown older. We knocked on the door, but no one was home.

South Beach

We are back from a week-long vacation! It has been awhile since we have gone anywhere and actually spent money on a vacation. So we jumped right in and went on a cruise this week. We sailed out of Miami and headed out into the Caribbean. It was such a great time to relax and not be connected to work or the internet. We ate well, too! I’ll be posting more pictures soon!
