These are my great grandfather’s WWI Medals. On the left is a Victory Medal, mailed to all the soldiers who fought in the war after it was won. The battle clasps on the ribbon denote participation in major ground conflicts. On the right is a Sons of the American Revolution membership medal.
Grandpa, Grandma, Mom and Dad all came to visit yesterday. Today, we piled into the car and drove to Wilmington, Ohio to visit Grandpa’s sister, Kay. She is a family historian and tells wonderful stories. We shared a lovely lunch with her daughter Mary Kay and Gary, then she took us to her apartment she recently moved into. With the move, there were a few family heirlooms found including a feedsack from the Bard Farm (Grandpa’s mothers family) in Lancaster, PA. It’s marked over 100 years old, but the note was probably written more than 75 years ago, I bet. Kay has the deed to her husband’s family farm signed by George Washington hanging on the wall.
