Lightning
It was quite a storm late last night! I took about 100 shots and got these four great ones. They are all a 10 second exposure at f22 looking out of our front upstairs windows. There is some color correction done in Lightroom, and some cropping, but otherwise these are straight out of the camera. At some points, the lightning was flashing every 2 seconds or so. It was really amazing.

Grandma’s Sewing Machine
For some reason I have been thinking about my Grandma a lot lately. She passed away about 6 years ago from cancer. John and I got to be with her the last few days of her life. She loved using her hands and being creative. She made all her own clothes, loved to knit and quilt and paint, make ceramics, and teach. I was able to keep what I think is one of her first sewing machines–a Pfaff 130 “Made in Western Germany” it says. My aunt tells me that she paid for it with her own money and got quite a deal for it too. I don’t quite remember all the details (maybe Dad can correct me) but apparently the sales guy wanted to take it away from her cause he undersold it. It comes in its own cabinet, complete with a chair and the machine folds up into it. She taught both my dad and my aunt how to sew on it. It still works and is a very good machine. I haven’t used it, but I have read it is a workhorse. I cropped the photo in tight and blackened this image to create more of an artistic look.
